Innovamat is an educational organization focusing on math learning. Its mission is to help improve how this science is taught by offering resources, training, and research to the educational community.

Since its founding in 2017 in Barcelona, Innovamat has partnered with 27,000 teachers from more than 2,600 schools in Spain, the United States, Mexico, Italy, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, and Peru, inspiring more than 600,000 students to build strong math foundations and instill a passion for learning.

Our Data Team plays a transversal and fundamental role: we measure the impact of our initiatives and turn insights into strategies that shape both product and business decisions.

Team & Role 🫂

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer, Platform & AI to help us build the next chapter of Innovamat’s data function.

This role will work very closely with the leadership of Product and Tech, and will play a key role in shaping the technical foundations that will support Innovamat’s data and AI capabilities in the coming years.

We do not believe in building large teams for the sake of it. We believe in building small teams of outstanding people, with high ownership, strong judgment, and the ambition to create something excellent. This role is a key part of that vision.

Our Data Team already combines Data Analysts and Data Engineers. What we are now looking for is someone who can raise the technical bar, strengthen the foundations of our platform, and help push the team towards the next frontier: ML and AI applied to real products and real decisions.

We are looking for a deeply hands-on builder — the kind of technical person who loves the craft, goes deep, stays curious, and genuinely enjoys making the people around them better. Not a lone wolf, but someone who raises standards through collaboration, technical judgment, shared practices, and a constant drive for excellence.

We want someone with strong expertise in AI and ML, but also the kind of engineer who is genuinely excited by technology in the broadest sense: someone who learns fast, explores beyond their specialty, and enjoys understanding how things work across systems, tools, and disciplines.

Our main bet for this journey is Databricks, and we want this role to be one of the key forces in making it the backbone of our future data and AI ecosystem.

Your Mission 🎯

Your mission will be to help build a data platform that allows Innovamat to scale analytics, ML, and AI with ambition and rigor.

That means strengthening the engineering foundations of our stack, improving how the team builds, and helping turn data and AI into real capabilities that reach the final user — whether that user is internal, a teacher, or a student.

You will help us make sure our work does not stop at dashboards or isolated experiments, but becomes a real competitive advantage for the company

Your Daily Life 🏁

• Build and evolve our Databricks-first data platform, shaping robust pipelines, shared data assets, and the architectural foundations for analytics, operations, and AI across the company.

• Own the full lifecycle of data products end to end — from ingestion and transformation to testing, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting — ensuring systems are reliable, maintainable, and truly production-ready.

• Partner closely with Data, Product, Research, and business teams to turn real problems into strong technical solutions and enable fast, trustworthy decision-making.

• Raise the engineering bar across the team through better architecture, code quality, CI/CD, observability, and shared standards — helping not only build great systems, but also make the people around you better.

• Help lay the foundations for ML and AI applications that create real value, while driving strong practices in governance, privacy, security, and technical judgment.

What We Are Looking For in You 🔎

• Strong expertise and real passion for AI and ML — you stay close to the field, enjoy going deep, and are ambitious about becoming top-level in this space, always with a practical mindset and a focus on real-world impact.

• Strong engineering mindset applied to data — you care about architecture, reliability, maintainability, and production-quality systems, not just making things work once.

• Solid technical foundations, including SQL, Python, modern cloud data systems, and ideally Databricks or the ability to ramp up very quickly.

• Good judgment across the full data and AI lifecycle — from data modeling and pipelines to testing, governance, privacy, security, and deployment — understanding that great AI/ML work depends on strong foundations.

• High ownership, curiosity, and generosity — you move problems forward, keep learning across disciplines, and enjoy raising the level of the people around you through collaboration, feedback, and shared standards.

• Fluent in Spanish and English (Catalan is a plus).

Nice to Have 

• Experience with dbt, workflow orchestration tools, cloud storage systems, and modern lakehouse architectures.

• Experience designing platforms that support both BI and ML/AI use cases.

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, environment management, role-based access control, and data platform governance.

• Experience in small, high-ownership teams where people are expected to think, build, and decide with a lot of autonomy.

• Understanding of SaaS, EdTech, or product usage data ecosystems.

• Interest in mentoring through technical leadership, example-setting, and raising standards — without needing formal people management responsibilities.

• A genuine love for data engineering as a craft: you enjoy reading, learning, debating trade-offs, and building systems that are elegant, useful, and resilient.
